How can I surrender my ferret?
Please call the shelter at 708.442.8650 for an appointment. The shelter is staffed entirely by volunteers and we are not staffed 24 hours a day. Some days, there is only one volunteer at the shelter and they are already spending their time taking care of the 100+ ferrets at the shelter. We would prefer to assist you with your surrender when there is more than one volunteer so we can take the time to learn as much as we can about your ferret for its continued health and care.
Some of the questions that you may be asked are as follows:
*What does your ferret eat?
*How old is your ferret?
*Has the ferret been vaccinated?
*Are you aware of any current medical issues?
*Who is your ferret's vet?
*Does your ferret get along with other ferrets or other household pets?
The question you will be asked is:
*Why are you surrendering your ferret?
Donation of unwanted ferret items
*If your cage is a Ferret Nation cage, the shelter will consider taking the cage. We are not in need of other cage brands, please do not bring them to the shelter, we have no room to store them.
*The shelter does not take open medication, laxatone, ferretone, linatone or the like.
*When you call for your appointment to surrender your ferret, describe what ferret items you have that you no longer need and the volunteer will be able to suggest what the shelter can use.
Your ferret is not a donation - please consider providing a monetary donation to assist in covering the cost of the shelter providing medical care, housing, food, water and litter for your ferret.
